Who We Are
The journey of Seemple started off as the shaping of a startup in 2017 with the vision of supporting production as well as presentation of the techniques Karbafi (textile weaving) and Zilubafi (yarn tapestry weaving). Both of these ancient techniques are native to Iran’s Yazd Province.
Why
These crafts are deeply rooted and interwoven in the simplicity of the lives and environment of people who have cherished them for generations; naturally intending to pass them onto their children and generations that come. However, the inevitability of the industrial society and mass production is an immediate threat to these unique arts and that is where our concerns begin.
How
Frequent first-hand encounters with skillful experts inherently familiar with the knowledge and know-how of these skills in their original geography seemed like a natural starting point to us. This is how you get to breathe the climate and culture of each region. Ever simple village offers richness through textures, colors and natural beauty.
And
In the last five years we have been lucky enough to witness these journeys turn into inspiration. Many young adults in these areas have newly-found motivation and imagining around the design and production of these old native handicrafts. Some seven hundred and fifty weavers are currently working in Iran’s city of Meybod and its surrounding villages, focused on the improvement of their local craftsmanship. This has subsequently resulted in the development of economy for rural households, the advancement in techniques and even reverse migration of villagers whose livelihood has been positively affected.
Prospect
Seemple’s activities are stemmed from a need of integrity and sustainability. We do not wish to limit ourselves to being a mere producer of traditional crafts and presenting nostalgia as a trend. Since the very first day we have held environmental concerns deeply in our vision as well as in our heart. We have successfully been able to develop ways (so far in Fars Province’s rural areas) to use sustainable raw materials and came up with natural dying techniques. As we move forward, we are discovering new solutions in utilizing these techniques for most and ultimately all our products.
